Javelin thrower and Asian Championships silver medalist DP Manu has been suspended for four years by the National Anti-Doping Association (NADA) after testing positive for the prohibited substance Methyltestosterone, an anabolic-androgenic steroid.
The violation stems from a test conducted during the Indian Grand Prix 1 in Bengaluru in April 2024, where the 25-year-old athlete won the competition with a throw of 81.91m. His case involved breaches of Articles 2.1 (Presence of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers in an Athlete’s Sample) and 2.2 (Use or Attempted Use by an Athlete of a Prohibited Substance or a Prohibited Method) of the National Anti-Doping Rules.
Manu, who claimed silver at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok and placed sixth at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, was a strong contender for the Paris 2024 Olympics through world rankings. Although he did not achieve the qualifying standard of 85.50m, his position in the global rankings would likely have secured him a place.
According to the latest list of sanctioned athletes published by NADA, the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel (ADDP) issued the sanction on March 3, 2025. The four-year ban is backdated to begin on 24 June 2024, the date of his provisional suspension.
