On 7 October 2026, the Delhi High Court ordered the suspension of over 120 websites and domain names on Reliance Industries Limited’s plea alleging infringement of its registered trademark “JIO” by such rogue websites in relation to lottery, gaming, payment-related and allied services.[1]
The Court found that the rogue website test laid down in UTV Software Communication Ltd. and Ors. v. 1337X.To and Ors., 2019 SCC OnLine Del 8002, which adopts a qualitative approach, was prima facie satisfied.
Accordingly, the Court restrained the use, adoption, operation and promotion of the impugned marks. The Domain Name Registrars were also directed to ensure that the primary defendant’s account and websites listed in Annexure A are suspended till further orders. Additionally, Google LLC was directed to disable access to and take down the impugned webpage hosted on its Blogger platform, together with the infringing content.
The matter will be heard next on 30 November 2026.
