In line with the NDA government’s’sports for all’ approach, the Andhra Pradesh Government is set to issue a new sports policy, inter alia enhancing reservation under the sports quota from the existing 2% to 3% and increasing the reward for winning a gold medal in the Olympics from ₹75 lakh to ₹7 crore. The prize money for silver and bronze medals would also be enhanced. In addition, a 50% reservation for grade 3 coaches in the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh is planned.
Nurturing talent through world class training, private partnerships, recruitment benefits, technology and promotion of sports tourism are some of the focus areas in the new policy. The plan further envisages setting up Amaravati as a sports city and building integrated sports complexes in other major cities in the state with Vizianagaram sports school specifically for tribal students.
