Indian conglomerate and IPR Franchisee Delhi Capitals co-owner GMR Group has signed an acquisition deal with English cricket club Hampshire County worth approximately £ 120 million. GMR’s parent company, GMR Global Pte. Ltd. (GGPL), will acquire a majority stake in Hampshire Sport & Leisure Holdings Ltd. as part of a “phased acquisition” along with an initial reduction of their debt. The takeover is slated to be completed in the next two years.

GMR owns Delhi Capital in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women’s Premier League (WPL), Dubai Capitals in the International League Twenty-20 (ILT20), Pretoria Capitals in South Africa 20 (SA20), and Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket (MLC). With the acquisition, Hampshire will become the first English county with an overseas owner. GMR will have a controlling stake in the Southern Brave team in The Hundred, along with owning the Hampshire ground, Utilita Bowl, previously Rose Bowl, the adjacent golf course, and the Hilton Hotel.
