The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has decided not to send boxers to the upcoming ASBC Asian boxing championship, which is scheduled from Nov 28 to Dec 12 in Jordan. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) had issued directions to its affiliated National Olympic Committees not to associate with the suspended International Boxing Association (IBA), and the organizer of the ASBC championship is affiliated with the IBA. Noncompliance would result in an international ban from future events.
On June 22, 2023, the IOC had withdrawn the recognition of IBA post suspension and non-compliance with conditions with respect to governance, finance, referees and judges. The decision was challenged before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which dismissed the plea. BFI, despite joining the Switzerland based World Boxing body in May this year, has not broken ties with IBA.
