ITIA Announces Financial Support for Tennis Players Accused of Doping

Tennis players accused of doping can access financial, mental health, and legal support, as part of the support package recently announced by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).

This development follows recent high-profile doping controversies involving top tennis players, raising questions about inconsistency. Some have noted that access to financial resources and top lawyers plays a key role in doping outcomes.

The support package is aimed at individuals involved in doping and corruption investigations. According to ITIA’s press release dated 8 October 2025, the new trial has commenced with immediate effect. Support initiatives include financial assistance for testing products, confidential third-party counselling, and free legal support.

Key details include:

  • Financial Help: Financial assistance will be offered to players notified of an adverse analytical finding from an anti-doping test, to test products at a WADA-accredited laboratory, or to assist with identifying sources of potential meat contamination.
  • Counselling Sessions: Well-being support is being extended through a partnership with the mental health organisation Sporting Chance. Access to six confidential counselling sessions will be provided.
  • Legal Support: The independent dispute resolution service for global sports, Sports Resolutions, has offered free anti-doping pro bono legal support to players from the moment they test positive. Earlier, such support was only available after the charge.
