In a move to strengthen India’s international sports engagement and promote domestic sports manufacturing, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has advised all recognised National Sports Federations (NSFs) to constitute two dedicated committees, one on International Relations and another on Make in India in Sports.
The advisories dated January 12, 2026, set out the composition and responsibilities of both bodies.
The International Relations Committee is to include senior federation members, former international athletes, coaches, and subject experts with experience in global sports administration and diplomacy. Its mandate includes tracking developments in relevant International and Continental Federations, preparing a medium-term international cooperation plan, and sharing proposals to host international events in India with the Ministry in advance. It must also ensure that international engagements align with government policy, the Olympic Charter, IF statutes, and principles of good governance, anti-doping compliance, and athlete safeguarding. Federations are required to communicate the Committee’s details to the Ministry within 30 days.
The Make in India in Sports Committee will comprise senior federation members, technical experts, former international athletes, and at least one member with experience in sports equipment/technology, manufacturing, or standards. Its responsibilities include identifying opportunities to adopt or scale indigenous solutions; engaging with Indian manufacturers, start-ups, research institutions, and testing bodies; facilitating product development and certification; and raising awareness of approved Indian products and solutions suitable for use in domestic and international competitions. Details of this Committee must be shared with the Ministry within 60 days of the advisory’s issuance.
