Russian Athlete Tatyana Tomashova Banned for 10 Years

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has imposed ten years of ineligibility on Russian middle-distance runner Tatyana Tomashova for multiple Anti-Doping Rule violations (ADRVs). Tomashova tested positive for anabolic steroids in retests of her out-of-competition samples, and the extended ban was imposed considering the previous ADRV committed by her in 2008.

She has also been stripped of her titles, awards, medals, points, and prize and appearance money obtained from 21 June 2012 until 3 January 2015, including the silver medal she had won in the 1500m race at the 2012 Olympics. Tatyana is one of the six athletes in the race touted as one of ‘the dirtiest races in history’ to have tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs out of the first nine finishers.
