His proficiency lies in handling tax matters of Corporate entities, MNCs, PSUs, Charitable & Religious Trusts, Search & Seizure Assessment procedures. He was also actively associated with the work relating to registration, assessment and enforcement of law relating to Charitable Trusts, which were engaged in the fields of Education, Medical care, R & D and other Charitable activities. Being on the other side of the table, he has had the expertise of deciding appeals of various Companies, PSUs, big corporate and business houses as a First Appellate Authority. He has rich experience in representing the Income Tax Department before the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), Income Tax Settlement Commission (ITSC), Authority for Advanced Ruling (AAR) and National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

While in service, Mr. Rao was actively associated with revenue mobilization, recovery of arrears, prosecution of the defaulters, Tax Administration, HR management and Infrastructure Development. He was also responsible for the redressal of Public Grievances and Taxpayer Services. He orated on Income Tax and socio-economic characteristics of fiscal space in society in various Public Meetings.
