On March 27, 2026, the Board of Control for Cricket in India collaborated with Google India to announce a partnership to introduce Google Search AI Mode as an Official Premier Partner for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The initiative is a step towards transforming digital sports consumption by adding advanced artificial intelligence tools into both live match broadcasts and search-based fan interactions.
According to the proposed framework, Google’s “AI Mode” in search will be the primary interface through which users will access real-time insights into IPL matches. Viewers will now be able to ask questions about match situations, player statistics, historical comparisons, and predictive scenarios using AI in Google search.
The AI search mode will help fans independently search for and explore information, including deep analysis of player performance and team strategies. The objective is to remove the gap between expert commentary and fan understanding by making advanced analytics more accessible to a broader audience.
Throughout the season, fans will see AI-powered match insights integrated directly into the live broadcast and can access them via Search. Additionally, fans can use AI Mode to capture key moments through AI-curated summaries, whether that’s identifying the best catches in a recent match or pinpointing the exact turning point in a high-stakes game. Along with this, fans will also be able to plan their match day by finding a sports café with a big screen for watch parties and researching the fitness routines of elite players.
The collaboration shows a broader shift toward the convergence of sports, data, and artificial intelligence in India’s digital ecosystem. It aims to deliver a more immersive and responsible fan experience using advanced AI technologies.
However, it is important that the use of AI-generated content complies with broadcasting standards, data usage policies, and intellectual property considerations applicable to sports leagues in India.
