Centre Constitutes Search-cum-Selection Committee for National Sports Board

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has constituted the Search-cum-Selection Committee for the National Sports Board under the National Sports Board (Search-cum-Selection Committee) Rules, 2026, framed pursuant to the National Sports Governance Act, 2025. The committee has been established to recommend suitable candidates for appointment as the Chairperson and Members of the National Sports Board.

After the constitution, the Board will serve as the central authority responsible for granting recognition to National Sports Bodies and ensuring compliance with governance, financial and ethical standards.

The National Sports Governance Board Rules and National Sports Tribunal Rules, 2026, were notified on May 22, 2026, to strengthen governance oversight of National Sports Bodies and establish a specialised framework for sports dispute resolution.

The five-member Search-cum-Selection Committee will be chaired by Dr. T.V. Somanathan, Cabinet Secretary. Its other members are Shri Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary (Sports); Lt. General (Retd.) Harpal Singh, representing the Indian Olympic Association and serving as the sports administrator member, and National Sports Awardees Shri Gagan Narang and Ms N. Kunjurani Devi.
