Indian Golf Union Passes Major Amendments to MoA to Align with NSGA

The Indian Golf Union (IGU) has approved sweeping governance reforms to its Memorandum of Association (MoA), bringing the federation into conformity with the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 (NSGA). The IGU unanimously adopted the amendments at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on September 7, 2026, attended by 20 State Golf Associations (SGAs). The IGU made them public on September 9, 2026.

Key Governance Reforms

Among the principal reforms, the IGU approved adding Sportspersons of Outstanding Merit (SOM) to its governing body, ensuring accomplished golfers are represented in the federation’s decision-making structure. The EGM also approved the constitution of several new bodies, including a Dispute Resolution Committee, an Ethics Commission, an Athletes’ Committee, and an Arbitration Commission.

Overhaul of the Election Process

The amendments further modified the IGU’s existing election process. Under the revised framework, the electoral officer must be announced 90 days before the incumbent governing council’s term expires. The election date must be announced 50 days before the term expires, and the final electoral roll must be published at least 30 days before the term expires. This establishes a time-bound election calendar for the federation.

Long-Term Planning and Financial Transparency

In addition to the electoral reforms, the amendments tasked the governing council with preparing a Long-Term Development Plan for a four-year cycle, aligned with the NSGA. The IGU further committed to publishing its audited accounts within 30 days of adoption by the General Assembly.
